Senior Fitness Exercise Classes One-on-one attention for men and women over fifty in all stages of fitness, with a special welcome to those with chronic illness. Classes are semi-private with lots of supervision and individual attention, instructed by physical therapists. The exercise program is tailored to your ability, needs, and potential. The senior fitness series is an excellent low-cost way to exercise under a therapist's supervision when the need for such care exists even after insurance allowances for physical therapy have been exhausted. It is also a great alternative when impairments such as gait disturbance, loss of balance, paralysis, pain, or compromised cardiopulmonary function make it difficult to participate in regular health clubs or gyms. Pilates TM We offer classes at our facility in conjuction with Upper Valley Pilates. Classes are taught by Betsy Ogden, who is also a staff physical therapist with Red Barn. New class series start every several weeks. Call 802-280-1878 for more information. ![]() The celebrated PilatesTM method increases your awareness of body alignment and posture. You work on strengthening the deep muscles surrounding your spine as well as your abdominal muscles. As movements are coordinated with breathing, you will learn to exercise efficiently. The essence of the Pilates method is to build up a strong core, so the extremities can relax, adding elegance and poise to your everyday movements. Exercises are performed either on the floor (mat work) or on the Pilates Reformer TM. This type of exercise is gentle and safe and is suitable for men and women of all ages. Shiatsu Treatment By appointment. $90 for a 50-minute private session. Elizabeth Deneen, PT, certified Shiatsu practitioner. Shiatsu is a Japanese therapeutic method involving stretching and pressure along meridien lines. Ki energy flows through meridiens. The energy may be blocked and create areas of congestion called jitsu or energy may be lacking, a condition called kio. Shiatsu is highly effective in relieving anxiety and pain because it stimulates the parasympathetic system which in turn stimulates the release of endorphins, your natural painkillers.
