Referrals by your doctor
If you have been referred to us by your physician, you should bring your prescription or referral slip on your first visit to Red Barn PT.  You may also ask your doctor to send or fax the referral to us directly.

Treatment without doctor's referral
In many states, including New Hampshire and Vermont, you may receive physical therapy and occupational therapy without a physician's referral.  It is generally recommended, however, that you do talk to your doctor before beginning any new exercises or other rehabilitation program.  Note: Medicare, as well as some other insurers, does require a physician's referral.

Paying for your treatment
We will call your insurance company on your first visit to verify coverage and to seek pre-certification for our services, if needed.   In general, insurers cover physical therapy and occupational therapy when treatment is "usual, reasonable, and customary."   (Depending on your insurance plan, you may be asked for co-insurance or co-pay payment at the time of your visit.)   We are a participating Medicare provider.

What to expect
On your first visit, the therapist will discuss with you your therapy goals and your treatment plan, including the role that you could play to optimize your treatment.  You can expect the initial visit to last one hour or more.   Please bring a list of your medications on that first visit.  The following treatment sessions will be of shorter duration.  Loose clothing, slacks and flat shoes are recommended.
